SPORTS

INTRAMURALS

For the sports-minded at JCBC, many and varied intramural
activities were provided by the HPR department. Students who
enjoyed the art of competition but were unable to compete on
the varsity level found that intramurals provided an excellent
opportunity to use their athletic skills. Besides the team sports
of football, basketball, and Softball, individual activities such as
bowling, tennis, and golf were also provided. Coach R. U.
Landers led men's l-M, and Miss Elaine Gavigan co-ordinated
the women's activities. Although the facilities were incomplete,
we were provided with three basketball courts, six handball
courts, and several tennis courts.

INTERCOLLEGIATE

The Junior College of Broward County was a full time member of the Florida Junior College Athletic
Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Although the college did not have
a football team, it carried a full schedule of basketball and baseball games. The Seahorses played
their home basketball games at Stranahan Gym and home baseball games on the new campus base-
ball diamond.

BASKETBALL continued

Mr. Clinton Morris ended his first year as head coach of the JCBC basketball
team on a note of pleasure and hopes of a bright future. Pleasure came from
coaching the SEAHORSES to their first winning season. Yet, as all good coaches,
he is looking into the future and hoping for an even better team.

With Gil Ford's 27 point-per-game average leading the way, the SEAHORSES presented a well rounded attack,
based on speed and good ball handling. Although averaging over 85 points a game and yielding less than
80, the 'HORSES ran into difficulty winning on the road. While the SEAHORSES lost only two of ten games
in the friendly confines of borrowed Stranahan High School Gym, they could only master three of eleven
road opponents. A three and five conference record was good enough for a third place finish in Division III
of the Florida Junior College Athletic Association Conference.

match as the coed team entered its second year of compe-
tition. Miss Elaine Gavigan coached the girls' team, which
was recognized as one of the best in the state. The team
had the distinction of being the first squad of any kind to

the season was a rousing 5-2 victory over the University of
Miami girls' varsity tennis team.

Members of the team are; Christy Johnson, Sonia Hoover,
